Re: Looking to buy a canoe and/or kayak in SA
Hi Sean,
Welcome aboard and glad your here. Hope you find what you need and that we can be of help.
Hate to say it but you may find your quest to be a bit difficult unless your very lucky and even faster. Went through the same hunt your going through now for about two years. Ended last spring when DW and I finally decided to buy two new 'yaks and quit hunting for anything used. Why, you ask? Because used canoes or 'yaks are about as scarce as hen's teeth! The few that we did find were either not worth having or priced so high that we might as well have purchased new. The good ones that are sold are often sold to friends of the seller and never go on the market. If they do end up on the market, they don't last long! We have an intra-office "For Sale" web site where I work (I do nothing but "browse" due to too much intra-office politics). Last week a 16' canoe popped up on the site. In less then 2 hours, it was "sold" and off the site. Best yet, this happened between 1 AM and 3 AM in the morning! Maybe 15% of the entire work force saw this ad, IF they were all looking! Given the way we work, it had to have been sold, "sight unseen"! They go that fast.
I'm not saying you can't find what your looking for. There are many members here and at least a few are paddlers. You may get a hit from this site or others like it and I sure hope you do. Just wanted you to know what DW and I went through and how we finally solved the issue. BTW: you'll find a list of our "toys" at the bottom of this message. We are very pleased with the 'yaks we finally purchased and hope that your search ends as well as ours did. Let me know if I can be of any help and...
Happy Camping & Paddling!
