I don't believe I've ever seen the Milky Way while at Padre. I might be wrong. I remember doing some stargazing, but the down island traffic (headlights) combined with any city glow from Corpus Christi, and now the new offshore oil rigs that are just barely offshore, it's a little suboptimal for stargazing. Sort of like the place my mom and I viewed Halley's comet from outside north San Antonio -- it's now so overgrown, most people have probably forgotten those few points of light represent a miniscule percentage of the actual stars and planets visible in our night sky.
I miss stargazing. Thank goodness the FAA is lobbying to get some teeth in its legislation to ban Earth orbiting advertising, some of which could appear as bright and as large as the moon. No kidding, there are actually firms pursuing licenses to launch
billboards in space. Talk about ruining stargazing...
