We camped at Padre last October and I must say I was a bit disappointed with the stargazing opportunities. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I've also stayed at Mustang Island a few times...with similar results. Indeed, the best views of the heavens for me have been well inland and not along the Gulf coast.
