Does anyone have suggestions about camping on padre island with just a truck and an air matress? I like sleeping under the stars but not if its really cold. I do plan on bringing a canopy for shade in the day. I only plan to stay one night and obviously wont be sleeping in the open if there is bad weather.

Also, is it too hot to be spending a day on the beach down there?

And, does anyone have decent directions to get there from San Antonio, google maps just pukes at me and the NPS site seems to be down.

PS - Shannon, great site you have here. I've found it invaluable for researching the parks of Texas. I just recently moved here and have gotten lots of useful info. Keep up the good work!
