Water is best tanked (many cross roads). I round tripped it in the spring 22 each way) I hiked it early October of this year. I would really recommend it but not till January. Gun season for hunters and national forest are a dangerous combo.

So, you're suggesting that a water filter wouldn't do the trick at the water sources? Cache water instead? FYI, Crockett, a defender at the Alamo, was known as David. Methinks it was Disney that dubbed him Davey, perhaps for more folksy appeal.
