I'm guessing there isn't much down there in the way of snorkelling, because a quick google search turned next to nothing up. but i'm wondering if I'm missing something. I know i wont find any super bright coral reef fish, but i was thinking that padre island national seashore (with their sea turtles?) might offer something. I dunno- thats why i am asking

I've tried a couple times to put together some links for you to reference for more information, but I keep getting interrupted with other tasks. I should have some info by the weekend. In the meantime, I did add a handful of links to the
Web Guide's "Recreation > Snorkeling & SCUBA" section that might be useful.
In general, I think our Gulf Coastal waters are not clear enough to provide for great snorkeling or diving... at least not near-shore where the sand/sediment is constantly in motion. I'm not a diver/snorkeler (it's one of those "someday" things, as in would love to someday), but that's my general impression from visits to the coast, attempts to look under the water (from above) at sea life, and observations of the various activities others participate in at the coast.
Still, I think we can come up with some good locations where snorkeling is enjoyed...
