My old home remedy for stings is wet tobacco. To be honest, I have no idea what it is the tobacco is supposed to do but I know it was the cure for a bee sting my mom always used.
That comment actually got me currious as to the rationale behind it and your meat tenderizer comment. I love living in the information age. Quick check of Google came up with this -

According to the article, this trick works on bee/wasp sings as well. Apprently the meat tenderizer breaks down the protein in the venom.
