STUDENT KILLED, TWO INJURED
IN HIT-AND-RUN BOAT ACCIDENT

AUSTIN, Texas -- One high school student was killed and two others were injured when an unidentified boat ran over a bass boat the students were riding in and then left the scene.

At about midnight Friday, the three Lampasas High School students were on Lake Buchanan and were struck by what has been described as a blue fiberglass boat. It ran into them almost head-on and then went airborne over the top of their bass fishing boat, according to Keith Gerth, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game warden who is working the case in conjunction with the Llano and Burnet county sheriff's departments.

Justin Roberts, 18, was ejected from the boat and killed; Kelly Jean Corbin, 19, was knocked unconscious but was found on the boat; and the boat operator, Jim Daniels, 17, was ejected. All three were wearing their lifejackets and their boat lights were on, Gerth said.

The suspect boat is believed to have been traveling at a relatively fast speed and law enforcement has obtained information from visitors at Burnet County Park who heard the wreck. They told police they believe the boat came back to shore with its lights off after the accident and was towed away by a white Chevrolet pickup.

"The families would like some closure on this," Gerth said. "We need to find out what happened. If anyone has any information or was part of this accident, please call us."
