Re: Tour of Texas this summer??

We've done that trip 2 years now. One year we stayed at Brantley Lake SP in NM and did Carlsbad Caverns, Sitting bulls Falls SP, the Living Desert Museum/Wildlife area, and drove up to Roswell NM to see 'aliens'. Brantley Lake SP gets 2 thumbs up.
We've also stayed @ Ft. Davis but not in the SP. We stayed @ Prude Guest Ranch. Which actually ended up being a little cheaper than the SP and they have trail rides and an indoor swimming pool!
In Alpine, there is Woodward ranch, where you can go park and scrounge Mr. Woodward's creek for all sorts of semi-precious rocks. He will help you identify them afterwards.
If you get a chance to drive up to Monohans Sand Dunes, go! The kids will LOVE it! They also have camping there but I don't know if I'd do that or not. Winds & all that sand do not sound good to me!
Garner -- you need SOME kind of ressies. The last 2 summers though, I've made ressies for a couple of days in New Garner and when I got there asked if they had anything available in Old Garner for a week. They did, and I've managed to get a premium site both times for more days! I wouldn't go totally w/out ressies, but ask when you get there if they have openings for Old G.
