I have discovered the best fire starters lately; "fritos". I get a piece of paper and wad it up under the fire wood, add a couple of "fritos" on in between the paper and wood and just light it up. You do not get any chemical taste. It really works wonders. If no fritos laying around, I use cooking oil as a starter. It also works wonders.
