Sounds like both of you all had a great time. Big Bend is truly a special place.
It has been a couple of years since we have been out there. This year, we are going over Christmas (staying in Study Butte). Looking forward to a Christmas meal at the Basin Lodge Restaurant and taking in the view of the basin and window.
If you all go back again, take in the Lost Mine Trail (at least to the saddle where you have the view of the SE rim, Juniper Canyon and Elephant Tusk). That is only a mile from the trailhead and an easy hike and I think one, if not the best view along the Lost Mine Trail. Grapevine Hills (done best in the morning if you are there in the summer) is another great hike as is the Chimneys Trail.
